Rattan Vines

This palm tree full of thorns has a surprisingly beautiful nature. It is so durable, yet flexible enough for a craftsman to shape and create a timeless, natural design to go with any décor.

It is a solid, bendable tropical rainforest climbing palm, featuring a sheath with spines that needs trees to wrap on to and soak in sunlight, and could reach 100 meters in length. It's solid all through the length of the tendrils and flexible enough that it makes a perfect vine tree to use for basket weaving and furniture making. It also has a long standing reputation of durability, being lightweight and sturdy, rattan stands out as one of the strongest non-wood materials in the world.

When the palm is harvested, standing rattan trees are left upright, unharmed as they are in the forest. Young rattan plants closely resemble a bamboo shoot, and see natural regrowth at a rapid pace as soon as they are harvested, which makes them fully sustainable ecological materials and a safe alternative to wood.

WoodKokko

It is an impressively fast growing species and needs little or no maintenance with plenty of hanging sweet taste seed pods. This appeals to animals, whose digestive system is specialized enough that the seeds are left in their waste and eventually grow back. This action restarts the life cycle of the Kokko, which is naturalised and self-propagates from wind, birds, cows, or goats.

Our use of woods come from the fallen trees of the severe monsoon weather or has been cleared due to road safety maintenance and is waste or reclaimed wood. This makes the range of woodenware availability limited and mass production is almost impossible. On some of our products, the wood grain may be imperfect, as nature shapes the wood itself, making the imperfections a normal characteristic.
